Perfect weekend

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend? Tell us about it here. I’ll begin with mine.

My weekend begins on Saturday afternoon, after I’ve finished teaching.

I’ll leave our building just off Piazza di Spagna at about a quarter to six. Hopefully it’s a beautiful sunny late afternoon.

If I’m staying in town, I’ll see an exhibition. There are often good exhibitions in Palazzo Cipolla, just down the road on Via del Corso.

Then I’ll likely head for Campo dei Fiori. I’ll stop at the Fahrenheit 451 bookstore and check out their photographic books: I collect these. After that, I’ll have a glass of wine in a cosy bar I know nearby on Via Monte della Farina. It’s called “Il Vinaietto“.

Then I’ll head home to Centocelle and cook dinner. Or perhaps I’ll go out to one of the nearby restaurants, such as “La Cantina di Dante”. Later, I might go out to the Micca Club or stay home and edit photos. I try to go to bed in good time especially if I am getting up early for a Sunday bike ride.

If it’s nice weather, Sunday will see me on a long bike ride. I catch a train to somewhere, head out on my bike and then catch another train home to Rome on another line. I sometimes go out alone, sometimes with friends.

So now, tell us all about your perfect weekend. Just use the “Comment” form below – it couldn’t be simpler.

  1. Hi! My perfect weekend ostracizes bikes, running, physical activity or sports. I prefer to read a newspaper , sitting in a coffe table at Caffè della Pace or at piazza Farnese. Later I like to walk , scrolling in the old ways of Roma. Sometimes I ask to dinner some friends. This is a pretext to go to buy a lot of fish at Eataly. Then, in the afternoon, I amuse to cook bass, red mullet, prawns, scampi in a seafood chowder with saffron and anise. However, that’is also a pretext! The true objective is to dispose four or five wine bottles on the table, remarking the time lapsing and the wine shrinking. I like my friends: they are tight-lipped and good drinkers. And I don’t know which quality I like more.

    • Hi Lionello. Many thanks for this interesting way of spending a weekend. I would like to make a few small corrections:

      1) “My perfect weekend ostracizes bikes”
=> “My perfect weekend excludes bikes”

      2) “… sitting in a coffe table” => “sitting at a café table”

      3) “Later I like to walk , scrolling in the old ways of Roma”
=> “Later I like to stroll along the old streets of Rome”

      4) “Sometimes I ask to dinner some friends.”
=> “Sometimes I ask some friends to dinner .”

      5) “Then, in the afternoon, I amuse to cook bass… ”
=> “Then, in the afternoon, I amuse myself cooking bass… ”

      6) “The true objective is to dispose four or five wine bottles on the table, remarking the time lapsing and the wine shrinking”
=> “The true objective is to line up four or five wine bottles on the table, observing the time passing and the wine vanishing.”

  2. My idea of a perfect weekend is,after the english lesson,to go to Villa Borghese and to ride a bicycle.
After I want to read a book on the meadow.
I hope that every weekend could be full of sun because I don’t like rain.
On Saturday evening I go to the cinema or in a pub with my friends and I have a good time when I stay with their.
On Sunday I want to get up later and I want to go to the sea or to do a trip in a city or to play soccer with my friends.
On Sunday when there is a bad weather I go to Rome in a museum or in a theatre or in a cinema and after I walk at the centre of Rome and I enjoy myself.

    See you!

    • Hello Kamal. Many thanks for your article. Here are just a few corrections. They follow the format [Original] “Corrected”. Here we go:

[My idea of a perfect weekend is,after the english lesson,to go to Villa Borghese and to ride a bicycle.]
“My idea of a perfect weekend after the English lesson is to go to Villa Borghese and ride a bicycle.”

[After I want to read a book on the meadow.] “Then I like sit on the grass and read a book.”

[and I have a good time when I stay with their.]
“and I have a good time when I am with them.”

[On Sunday I want to get up later]
“On Sundays I like to get up late”

OK. Have a look at these. If there is anything you don’t understand, just ask me.

      Yours,
      Mike

  3. Writing about my favourite weekend… Well I usually try to relax myself swimming or running, listening to the classical music or going to the cinema with my little boy ( my child Leo). Reading is my favourite duty as well, I’m skilled in Middle-Age , Philosophy and Literature.
On Mondays I’ll go outside for lunch. In the afternoon, I’ll go to watch Rugby match.
However, WE time is so short, I’ll need to more hours for realising all what my mind and energy should me to do.
    GM

    • Hi Giorgia! Thanks for writing this. I would like to add two corrections:
[Well I usually try to relax myself] => “Well I usually try to relax.”

[On Mondays I’ll go outside for lunch.] => “On Mondays I’ll go out for lunch.”

[However, WE time is so short, I’ll need to more hours for realising all what my mind and energy should me to do.] => “However, the weekend is so short that I need more time to do everything my mind and energy tell me to do.”

      I hope these corrections help!

  4. My perfect weekend starts on Saturday afternoon when I go out with my girlfriend and my friends for a walk in the park of my country.
After we go in a restaurant for dinner. I love eat pizza.
Then we go to a pub for a friendly drink. I don’t have a preferred place but if it is possible I like go to a new local every time.
My ideal weekend continuous on Sunday when my girlfriend, my friends and me go to the beach to a beautiful sea day! We play beach volley, walk on the seashore and swim all day.
In the evening we eat fish in a fabulous restaurant on the beach and after we go back home to prepare us for a new working day.

    • Thanks for this Giuseppe! Here are two corrections:

[for a walk in the park of my country.] => “for a walk in the park in my village/town”

[After we go in a restaurant for dinner. I love eat pizza.] => “Later, we go to a restaurant for dinner. I love pizza.”

Remember that “after” is a preposition, whereas here you need an adverb.

      More soon!

  5. Hi!
My perfect weekend begins on Saturday afternoon when I go out with my friends for a walk in the center of Rome or a visit to an exhibition. In the evening I often have a pizza after seeing a theatrical performance or a movie at cinema.
On Sunday I prefer to stay at home with my family. I love to read a book and to listen to music. I like to take my dog for a walk too.
It’s also the day when I experience new dishes because I often try to cook. My specialities are first courses, parmigiana and cakes, especially apple cakes.
If I can, I spend a lot of time watching television, in particular crime TV series and AS Roma’s football match.
I’d have much more time to do what I want but the weekend is too short
    Bye
    Elisa

    • Hi Elisa! thanks for this. Here are two corrections:

[after seeing a theatrical performance or a movie at cinema.] => “after going to the theatre or the cinema.”

[It’s also the day when I experience new dishes] => “It’s also the day when I experiment with new dishes”

I hope these corrections are clear.
      Yours,
      Mike

And let’s see the next person who writes in!
      Mike

    • Hello Riccardo. Here are a few corrections:
“My perfect weekend begin on Saturday morning” => “My perfect weekend begins on Saturday morning”
“I like to wake up early and going for a walk ” => “I like to wake up early and go for a walk ”

  8. Hello everyone!
My perfect weekend? let me think …
I agree with Federica, my perfect we it’s when I have time for myself.
In fact, during the week I’m always in a harry, I work hard and I get home too late to do anything.

Usually my weekend begins on Friday evening. When I finish working, I’m go swimming to relax myself. After that, I get home and cook dinner. Finally I lie on the sofa and see a good film .
At the moment, all the stress disappear.

Saturday, if I am in town, I like going to the cinema or to see the exhibitions or going around the city, to discover new places . Rome is a interesting city and there are some event to see and many things to do.
The whether in Rome is almost always sunny, also in the winter, so it’s worderful walking arround the city, and stopping at a pub or vine bar to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine with friends.

Yesterday, for example I went to via del Governo Vecchio to have a dinner in a tipical roman’s pizzeria “Il Baffetto “. There was a very long line to enter in the restaurant, but after half an hour we were able to enter and ate a good pizza.

The week is too short to do all the things I want.

Anyway, my weekend really perfect I imagine it like this: it would go to a seaside town, or island, stay in a hotel on the sea front, wake up without putting the alarm clock having breakfast on a terrace overlooking the sea and after I would like walking without programs.
    That’s all
    Maria Teresa

  9. My perfect weekend is:

If I’m going out of town, I’ll go to the beach with my girlfriend and my friends; so I can relax.

But if I’m stayig in town I’ll go to dance on Friday night.
The next day I’ll go downtown to take a walk or to see landscap(for example from Gianicolo or Villa Borghese). Then I’ll go to play football with my friends and after the match we’ll go to drink something near Trastevere(for example Piazza Trilussa or Campo dei Fiori).

On Sunday I might go to sea or to a park with my girlfriend and then I might see the A.S.Roma’s match.

    Andrea

  10. Hi,
my perfect weekend is when I have time for myself, when I don’t have to set the alarm for wake up in the morning and I don’t have to look at my watch during the day. In short: when I’m carefree.

I am very happy when I can travel. For example, in June I’m going to spend a weekend in Ponza and I’m very exiting because I have never been in Ponza and I think it is a wonderful place. I am leaving Rome on Friday and I coming back Sunday in the evening. I hope to find a sunny weather and I can have a bath. Furthermore in this trip I will be able to meet some friends I haven’t seen for a long time, they live in Salerno and we are meeting again in Ponza.

If I stay in Rome, usually I spend my Friday afternoon to play with my little niece Emma, she is lovely!
Saturday and Sunday I meet my friends for a cinema, an exibition o things like that. I also enjoy just go for a walk, I live in Rome since when I was born but I think there are in Rome always something news to discover. Rencently I like very much go around the neighborhoods, like Pigneto, Ostiense, Testaccio and Quadraro, for discover graffits and street art and take some photos.
Usually Sunday morning I go swimming. In the afternoon if I’m very tired I stay at home reading a book, staying on the Internet or watching a film.

I forgot… I have to dedicate a bit of time to cleaning my home, it’s boring but necessary. I think that the weekend should be longer!

    That’s all,
    Bye Federica

  11. My perfect weekend!
Normally I spend the weekend at my mother’s house because she can’t do anything alone.
From Monday to Friday with my mother there are my brother and Anna, a girl who cooks lunch and dinner.
The weekend I spend my time with her. I cook for everyone, including my husband and his brother.

On Sanday afternoon we go to the “casa del popolo” to play bingo.

Instead my perfect weekend should be different.
I would spend time reading books, listening to music, going to see landscapes or new city.
In generally i would like relax in my house because from Monday to Friday I work in Rome, away from home and often around Italy.

If I could I would like to go every weekend in Berlin, my favorite city.
I would be on the banks of the Sprea River to drink beer.
I could walk along the Sprea River or in the gardens or around the city.

I would like to live in the multi-etnic and very young district Prenzlauerberg.

I could dinner in the typical pub, walking around Mitte district with its Museums Island or around Fridrichshain, the student district.

In Berlin there are many Museums which I haven’t seen yet.

Berlin, for me, is the most amazing city in the world!!!!

    • A nice account of your weekend. A few small corrections:
      Format: – original (corrected)

      – Sanday (should be Sunday)
      – I would spend time reading (I would like to spend my time reading)
      – I would like to go every weekend in Berlin ( I would like to go every weekend to Berlin)
      – I could dinner in the typical pub (I could have dinner at a typical pub)

      I hope these help!

  12. Hi! My name’s Gianluca and my idea of a perfect weekend is:

On Friday, after I’ve finished working and had a shower, I’d then go to the date with my friends eating for takeaway meal and immediately after, watching an original language movie at cinema.
On Saturday if we are going away (we’ve previous organized it), we’ll get in our cars and we’ll move to visit Civita di BagnoRegio a very nice little town, which named “the town which there isn’t”, but celebrated all around the world.
Meanwhile if we decide, so that, we’ll go to a typical restaurant eating some special or traditional dishes.
Than continuing 0ur visit until afternoon later,we’ll head for the hotel!!
On Sunday if we still had strong enough, my friends and me, we’d have a lunch in my home that we’ve cooked all together and then we’ll play guitar, listening music, enjoying and talking among us!!
    Binding! But Funny
    See You

    • Hi Gianluca. very nice. Can I make a few corrections?
      – I’d then go to the date with my friends eating for takeaway meal (I’d then go out on a date with my friends to have a takeaway meal)
      – we’ve previous organized it (we’ve previously organized it)
      – Than continuing 0ur visit until afternoon later (Then, continuing our visit until later in the afternoon)
      – On Sunday if we still had strong enough (On Sunday if we are still strong enough)

I hope these corrections help. Many thanks for writing.
