    Technology
The biggest and most important invention in my opinion is the smartphone.
It has totally changed humanity both and positively.
Now we can communicate much faster, through a call or a message.
Many people are able to communicate with their distant family through a video call from a smartphone, so this is a good thing.
The bad part is that now many people around the world have become addicted to the smartphone and do not enjoy normal life, but only through a screen.

    1. mikiroma says:

Hello Marinela and many thanks for your article. It’s very clear but I have to make a few corrections:
      > both and positively: – what do you mean? Here is a suggestion: ‘both for the better and for the worse’
      > The bad side is
      > addicted to their smartphones
      > do not enjoy a normal life
Excellent, Marinela! Keep Calm – and Carry On Writing!

  2. Valerio says:

I want to explain my dramatic situation about my thesis: I study Management Engineering and I’ll probably graduate in 4/6 months, it depends
on my university teacher because I can’t speak with him.
We have to decide the topic of the thesis and I need his help to do it.
I’m thinking to change my supervisor with another one, but I don’t know, I’m very confused.
It’s a serious dramatic situation because I’ve a fear of not making it on time, to write a thesis is everything except easy, you need so much time because you must consider all of bad things that could happen.
Moreover, I haven’t finished the exams I’m missing only 2 exams that I’m following in this semester.
I hope that this will have a good ending.
    Bye!

    1. mikiroma says:

Hello Valerio. I am sorry you are having trouble with your thesis and I hope it gets solved in the very near future.
Meanwhile let me look at your text to see if I need to make any corrections:
      > because I can’t speak to him OR because I can’t contact him
      > I need his help to do so. – We use “so” as an adverb to refer to a previously-mentioned action without repeating it.
      > I’m thinking of changing supervisors – this shorter version expresses your idea in fewer words.
      > because I’m afraid of missing the deadline
      > you must take into account all the things that can go wrong.
      > I have only 2 exams to go this semester. – Do you mean that you only have to take two more exams this semester?
      > I hope that this will end well.

Many thanks again, Valerio and I hope it all gets sorted.

  3. Lorenzo P. says:

Ever since I was at high school I have always thought that my path would inevitably lead to science or technology; indeed at university I’ve chosen a hard course of study in aerospace engineering. I dreamt of becoming an astronaut! It was a difficult path; it required a lot of study and as a student-worker it wasn’t always easy.
But in parallel to my strong passion for science I’ve dedicated, probably with the same effort, a lot of time to my second love, photography.
I studied at the Roman School of Photography for one year to learn the “tricks of the trade” and then I spent several months at Officine Fotografiche to improve my skills in studio lighting. It was a wonderful and never-ending time!

    1. mikiroma says:

Very clear, thanks Lorenzo for this account of your education. A few final corrections:
      > at university I’ve chosen a hard course of study in aerospace engineering – correct if you are still studying at this momment. If you are no longer studying, then this is correct:
at university I chose a hard course of study in aerospace engineering

    My education
I went to Classical High School in Catania, called Leonardo da Vinci”, an institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. It was a single-sex school, only for males.
I liked my school. It was very beautiful, because it had a very large park and a well-equipped gym. Including all school grades (from Kindergarten to Lyceum), there were about 1000 students; in my class there were 32 of us. The school day started at 8.30 am and finished at 13.30 pm, from Monday to Saturday.
My favorite subjects were Literature, Greek and Philosophy, the ones I liked least were Math and Physics. The teachers gave us a lot of homework and I often completed them in the morning, before going to school. I did athletics, in particular long jump.
In my school there was a uniform only for sports. I didn’t like the uniform, because I preferred the big brands.
Discipline was very strict; the most frequent punishment was to memorize passages and repeat to the Principal.
I have a good memory of my schoolmates, with some of whom I am still in touch.
After High School Diploma I enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Catania, but I left it after 2 years and I was called for military service. I then chose the Faculty of Psychology at the Sapienza University of Rome, where I obtained my degree and PhD.

  5. Antonella C. says:

When I was young, it was very easy for me learning at school. I was always paid attention in class, so in the afternoon I could finish my homework quickly and I could go out to play with my friends. The problem started in choosing the secondary school. Indeed there weren’t so many possibilities that I thought good for me. Finally I chose a school that it could give me a chance in the future, even without going to university. At that moment I thought that a scientific field was right, but only a few years after I knew I was wrong. I discovered so many jobs much more interesting for me that were based on humanistic studies. However, I started to work as soon as I was graduate and I continued until my second daughter was born. So maybe, my studies there weren’t so wrong, after all.

  6. Anonymous says:

When I was young I attended the Classical High School and the first two years are called the Gymnasium where I studied greek, latin for the first time, and I had to study hard because I had a very strict female teacher who questioned me every day even four times in the morning. I was worried about my preparation and when I changed teacher in the third year I felt me better even if I studied less and I found more difficulties in latin and greek. In the eighties sometimes the schools were occupied from the students who protested against the government and there were many strikes so I lost my knowledge of the subjects and I had a low assessment at the High School Diploma. When I went to the University I attended the faculty of Literature and I managed finally to study by myself having good results and I graduated in geography. At once I followed a course of Costume and fabric design and I managed to do both with some difficulties. I think that every body succeeds only with much work and passion. Now I am a teacher of geography and I am satisfied of this.

I did go to scientific high school in Rome. I was good at school above all in scientific subjects.I didn’t have to study many hours in the afternoon to do my homework because i was very careful during the lessons. For this reason i have a nice memory of that period. The last year of high school the teachers suggested that i choose a university with a scientific orientation. So i decided to enroll at La Sapienza in Rome in construction engineering. To be honest the first and second years were very difficult, I remember that i followed the courses for eight hours and i couldn’t keep my concentration. When the lessons ended i had to study but i always very tired, for this i was very discouraged. To prepare for the most difficult exams I also studied at night with my friends. By the way, going forword over the years, i was able to go on and graduate. I’ve been working for two years now and i can say that the worst is over.

    1. mikiroma says:

Thanks Maris Giulia! This is a nice article. Here are some corrections:
      > I went to scientific high school in Rome
      > above all at scientific subjects
      > I didn’t have to spend hours in the afternoon doing my homework
      > because I paid careful attention during the lessons
      I hope these help!

      > the teachers suggested that I choose to do science at university

  9. Valentino Antonelli says:

In Italy the school system divide secondary schools into first and second grade.
I remember that during my middle school (first grade) I studied a bit, but I had a strong influence from my Italian and History teacher that wanted that I studied more and more. For this reasons, the last two years I studied a lot, and often with high results.
During the high school (second grade) I chose a commercial technical Institute where I studied business economics, marketing, law, finance as major subjects, but also there were normal subjects like history, maths, IT ecc.
In this five years it was all tough, expecially the teachers, who all wanted a high preparation. In my opinion I was a bit lucky to study hard during the middle school, because I didn’t feel the weight as hard as my classmates. In fact just in the fist year I realized where I was and what I had to do, and thanks to my constancy I got excellent results.

After the high school I went to Tor Vergata University in Rome to study Economics and now I’m at second year. The university life is completely different from the secondary schools, but I learn to change and finally I can say that I prefer much more this type of education than the first.

    1. mikiroma says:

      Many thanks for this Valentino!
      A few corrections:

      > For these reasons

I studied at a very hard scientific high school. After lessons, I was studying from 2 p.m. to midnight. It was terrible. Even the discipline was very strict. I think this was excessively and useless. In everything the excess must be avoided, even, and especially in education. Education is essential for the development of one’s personality. Excessively strict discipline prevents growth.
After high school, I studied at University. I studied math and physic. Math is very hard but wonderful. I studied at La Sapienza in Rome. I felt very good there: this place was a second home for me. The teachers were very kind and they taught well.
I learned so much from my teachers especially about the method and behaviour with students. I’m extremely grateful to them.

    1. mikiroma says:

Thanks very much for this Santina. Just a few small corrections
      > at a very tough scientific high school – ‘tough’ meaning difficult, hard
      > I think this was excessive and useless. – Be careful to distinguish between adjectives and adverbs.
      > In everything [the] excess must be avoided – when referring to an abstract idea in a general way: no article.
      I
      hope these corrections help!

When I was 14 years old I signed up a Scientific Higt School in Rome. I liked it because I had male and female friends. In my class we were about 25/30 pupils. The lessons starded at 8 o’clock and finished at 14 o’clock. Two or three times a week we went in a swimming pool near the school for the physical education lessons. We didn’t have a lot of homework. I remember that the our math teacher was strict (peraphs he was a little creazy!!), but I don’t remember if she used to punish us. I have a loving memory of those years. I had a lot of fun. Today I still attend some of my classmates. They are grat friends for me!
After I gratuated in Law at The Sapienza in Rome. It was a very caotic university and I still remembers the rows of students for everithing!!!!

After going to primary school near my house, for secondary school I chose a school of Grottaferrata, a village near my.
To get to school I took the bus and in the three years of attending, I met some of my current friends.
When the time came to choose high school unfortunately, with many schoolmate we divided, everyone took his own way.
I chose the Frascati Industrial Institute, a town 7 km from my and after the first two years my specialization was Electronics and Telecommunications.
My favorite subject in high school was Physical Education, in fact I was part of the school basketball team and after
graduation I decided not to enroll in university, but to take a course for website creators and photo editing and then I started working.

    Dear Teacher,
all my studies has been performed in my town Naples and in particular in Electronic school. After I enrolled at Federico II university in department of Engineering but I produced only the exams for the first two years because I started to work very young.
At school I was very happy, even if the classrooms were purely only male. Among the all subjects, my preferred was math while the worst was literature.
    Bye Carmine

      > all my studies took place in my town Naples and in particular at the School of Electronics
      > Later, I enrolled at the Federico II university in the department of Engineering
      > but I passed only the first two years of exams
      > Among the all subjects, my best was math while my worst was literature. – in British people talk about “maths” while it’s “math” in the US.
